Designing for the Web

No matter what media you are designing for, the principles of visual information design remain the same. However, while the core design principles may remain unchanged, it is ultimately the medium that will strongly play on the details of the design.

For example, the basic principles of color interaction, composition etc may remain the same for print as well as web design, but they have to be handled very differently. Designing a website is certainly not the same as designing a brochure, because people interact differently with the two.

So how do you design websites? Say you have to make a website for apartments in amsterdam You will first need to assess the target audience of the site and determine the look of the site accordingly. The site will need to be user friendly and will need to show up in search engine listings.

This is where SEO, or search engine optimisation comes in. search engine optimisation is the term used to describe the various ways that can be used to improve the ratings of a website and make it appear on searches on all major search engines.

When we search for various things online, we don't normally go beyond as few pages of listings, if that. It is therefore important to make sure that a website has good visibility and that it appears on the first page or the second page of listings.
